1906

All India Muslim League founded

Established in Dhaka to safeguard the political rights of Muslims of the subcontinent.

1930

Allahabad Address

Allama Iqbal presented the idea of a separate Muslim state in North-West India.

1940

Lahore Resolution

Passed on 23 March at Minto Park, demanding independent states for Muslim majority regions.

1947

Independence

Pakistan came into being on 14 August 1947; Quaid-e-Azam became the first Governor General.

1956

First Constitution

Pakistan was declared an Islamic Republic under its first constitution.

1971

Separation of East Pakistan

East Pakistan became Bangladesh after the war of 1971.

1973

Constitution of 1973

The present parliamentary constitution was unanimously adopted.

1998

Chagai Nuclear Tests

Pakistan conducted nuclear tests in Chagai, Balochistan on 28 May.
