Consequently, these features appear dark blue or black in the processed image. This high contrast helps geographers and remote sensing analysts distinguish water from surrounding land cover, which often appears in shades of red or green depending on vegetation health.

In standard false-color infrared (CIR) imagery, healthy vegetation reflects high levels of near-infrared radiation, appearing as bright red or pink. Urban areas, depending on the material, often appear in shades of blue, gray, or cyan, though the specific interpretation can vary based on the sensor and processing techniques used.
