Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel led the Bardoli Satyagraha, a peasant movement against tax hikes. It was here that he earned the title 'Sardar'.

The Congress was banned in 1932. However, Madan Mohan Malaviya was a key signatory on behalf of Hindus (Congress) for the Poona Pact with Ambedkar. (Technically, the presidency was in flux due to arrests, but Malaviya presided over the illegal Calcutta session in 1933).

Gopal Krishna Gokhale founded the Servants of India Society in 1905. While he was a Congress President (1905), the Society itself was a distinct body for social service.

The joint scheme of reforms agreed upon by the Congress and the Muslim League in 1916 is popularly known as the Lucknow Pact.
